2009 Mushroom Festival Winners

The 6th Annual Mushroom Festival was held Sunday, April 26th. The Mushroom Cook-off was a huge success, with approximately 500 people sampling each of the 9 chef’s creations. The delicious Mushroom Crepes created by Sharon Drescher of Chataqua, IL earned her first place in this year’s competition. Second place was awarded to E.F. Carpenters of Jerseyville for their delectable Mushroom Wellington and Mushroom Bisque. Franco’s Restaurant in the Holiday Inn of Alton took third place with their tasty Mushroom Flatbread Pizza.

Evan Kane won the biggest mushroom contest, with a mushroom measuring 16 inches (height plus circumference). Carolyn Warnhoff and Shannon Boucher tied for smallest mushroom with each mushroom measuring less than 1/8 inch.

Piasa Winery & Gift Shop would like to thank everyone who came out to share the day with them, including all nine fantastic chefs, the wide variety of local vendors, the hard-working friends and family, and the hundreds of patrons who continue to support us year-in and year-out and celebrate “all things mushroom”.
